Professional Background
Leslie's professional career began in healthcare, working in a hospital surgical unit, radiology unit, and - finally - the administration office. Prior to moving to Salt Lake City, Leslie enjoyed her role as a fundraiser for the San Dieguito Boys & Girls Clubs in Solana Beach, CA.
Leslie has found a new professional home in Anusara Yoga, and brings to it a husband(Howard), 2 dogs and 2 cats. As importantly, she has a son and stepdaughter, and is grandmother to 5 boys (2 in Kansas, and 3 in Carlsbad, CA).
When not attending or teaching a yoga class, Leslie enjoys the outdoors and loves a good book, knitting, and traveling.
Yoga Background
Having come to yoga later in life (1998 at age 49), Leslie also brought tight hamstrings, tight hips, and a 'less-than' attitude about herself. Introduced to Anusara in 2002, Leslie had her first exposure to John Friend and the extended Kula at one of the final retreats at Inner Harmony/Cedar City. Tentative at first, she has gradually immersed herself in the practice and study.
While her hips and hamstrings are still tighter than most, her attitude has changed in AMAZING ways -- thank you, Anusara, John and all my Teachers - yoga & otherwise.
Leslie is pleased and proud to be designated an Anusara-Inspired yoga instructor, as well as a E-RYT500 (Yoga Alliance). Her teaching schedule includes public and private classes. She also accepts any opportunity to venture out and share yoga's benefits.
Leslie recently found that 'blogging' brings out a side of her little known to anyone (even Leslie). Check it out, www.anusara-inspired.blogspot.com.
And, another two-part chapter begins -- On the path to Certification, Leslie and her husband have moved back to the San Diego area (Fallbrook, specifically). New studios -- new classes -- new students. Love it!
Questions and Answers
Q: What other hobbies do you have aside from yoga practice?
A: Golf, skiing, flyfishing, reading, knitting, traveling
Q: What is the title of a book that you have read recently that you could strongly recommend?
A: "Where Rivers Change Directions" -- an autobiographical description of life growing up on a dude ranch outside of Cody, Wyoming. Well written!!!
Q: What is one of your all-time favorite movies?
A: Always the musicals -- maybe "My Fair Lady" or "The Sound of Music".
Q: What is one place that you would like to visit in the world? Why?
A: Sweden -- part of my family's origin. My great uncle came to the United States from Sweden. I spent every weekend at his house with family while growing up -- Great memories: lots of good Swedish food, a bit of the language, a lot of the love.
Q: What's your favorite color?
A: Not sure -- I wear a lot of black, white and RED (red having recently been added to my wardrobe). Perhaps that's a reflection of my change in attitude; being more bold and accepting of my greatness.
Q: What award in high school should you have won?
A: Boy, I hardly remember high school. Hard to answer; maybe "Best Behaved" or "Most Likely to Not Make Waves" !?!?!
Q: What is one of the funniest incidents that occurred in one of your yoga classes?
A: Gentle Yoga Class, attendees mostly women ages 60-86. Teaching the class, intent on telling them what they are doing, why it's good, etc., when out of the group comes the comment: "Gentle, my _ _ _ (3-letter word for glutes)!" You gotta love it!
