Professional Background
After several years "sowing my oats" after high school, I returned to Gonzaga University where I completed my BA in Sociology/Philosophy. I have been a wildland fire-fighter, helicopter crew member, ski photographer, bartender, cocktail server, waitress, EMT, bookkeeper, nurse delegate, Hospice volunteer, Spokane AIDS Network board member, certified personal trainer, group-fitness instructor...but, and, also...my greatest accomplishment is that of wife and mother. I hope to retire in this corporeal plane as a yoga teacher.
Yoga Background
I am an Anusara-Inspired™ yoga teacher registered with the Yoga Alliance,RYT 500, E-RYT 200. I credit, with great gratitude, John Friend, Hanneli Francis, Karen Sprute-Francovich, Noah Maze’, Christina Sell, Ross Rayburn, Martin Kirk, Elizabeth Rainey, Elena Brower, and Desiree Rumbaugh as my inspiring mentors and teachers. I found yoga (via Trikonasana) in 1993 on the rocky banks of the Icicle River.
I am a trained childbirth assistant/doula and educator under the tutelage of my own midwives, Cathy Weston and Tamy Roloff. I have aligned myself with Cara Wright, a local doula, energy worker, and yoga teacher.
When I am not teaching yoga or assisting births, I can be found in my own practice, immersed in some rich novel or philosophy text, in the gym or on a long run, boisterously sparring with my long-suffering husband, and/or playing with my four kids.
Current Public Yoga Schedule Summer 2012:
Tuesday/Thursday - Rockpointe Corporate Center, Suite 4300 12-1pm (Mixed)
I am also an adjunct faculty at Gonzaga University, teaching yoga for the P.E. department Sep-April, Tues/Thurs 3:10-4:00, 4:10-5:00pm.
Available for impromptu group classes or private sessions. Please contact for scheduling.
Questions and Answers
Q: What other hobbies do you have aside from yoga practice?
A: I'm a lifetime gym rat...alas, that being said, I LOVE the outdoors! When the weather is good, I spend as much time as possible out in it with my family. Summers in the Inland Northwest are notoriously short, but we have a sport boat that has probably been the best investment our family has made. Some of the best days in our family memories are those spent on the water. My personal time is spent reading or writing...or glued to Facebook.
Q: What is the title of a book that you have read recently that you could strongly recommend?
A: So many titles...so little space. "Radical Acceptance" by Tara Brach. It was recommended to me several years ago...I've recommended it unceasingly ever since. "Siddhartha" by Herman Hesse was given to me recently by a student...I can't believe it took me 42 years to finally read it. LOVE IT!
Q: What is one of your all-time favorite movies?
A: "O Brother, Where art thou?"...and ANYTHING (anything at all...) with Paul Newman (especially "HUD".)
Q: What is one place that you would like to visit in the world? Why?
A: All of them...if I only had wings...or teleporting ability.
Q: What's your favorite color?
A: Currently, various shades of Orange...
Q: What award in high school should you have won?
A: I won it. "Best Director" in our Tournament of Plays...(no surprise for those who know me well are acutely aware of my bossiness...)
Q: What is one of the funniest incidents that occurred in one of your yoga classes?
A: Teaching a bit of pranayama to a group of Ultimate Fighters...Brahmari breath..."bumble bee" breath...one kid just couldn't get it...continued to "buzz" just like a bee...through his teeth...as LOUD as he could...it was all I could do not to burst into hysterics...I actually ended up HOLDING my own breath so I didn't...
