Professional Background
I am a residency trained, board certified emergency medicine physician and I am the associate residency director of the emergency medicine residency program at UCSF-Fresno. My interests are in physician wellness and wilderness medicine and I currently serve as the chairperson of the wellness section of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Yoga Background
I was first introduced to yoga as a young child. My mother practiced yoga in her bedroom, using the Sivananda Companion to Yoga as her guide. My favorite pose at that time was Sarvangasana (shoulder stand). I dabbled in yoga during college but did not return to a committed practice until during my residency training in emergency medicine. Seeking an activity that would balance the stresses of medical training and long distance running, I rediscovered yoga asana. The majority of my inital practice was guided by Rodney Yee and Cindy Lee via their VHS presentations; yoga studios just didn't exist in the community I lived at the time.

In January of 2005, I feel like I finally found my place in the yoga community. I attended the Yoga Journal Conference in San Francisco and signed up for Desiree Runbaugh's Introduction to Anusara Yoga. From the moment I stepped into the class I felt like I had found my home and from then on, I have continued to dive into the deep waters of Anusara yoga and have never looked back. I am thankful to Desiree for introducing me to this profound and beautiful style of yoga and I continue to learn much from her each year. I am grateful for Martin and Jordan Kirk who came to Fresno and offered an immersion and teacher training that I was blessed to take along with my sister and friend, Terri. In the last few years I have been blessed to train with John Friend at many differnet venues and continue to explore the beauty that is Anusara yoga.

I share what I have learned from my many wonderful teachers in a weekly community class. The donations from this class go to support many worthy local, national and international charities. I also use my skills to introduce yoga as a skill for physicians in training to use for their own wellness and the well being of their patients.

I feel very blessed to have found Anusara yoga and to be able to share it with my community. I am even more blessed to continue to practice yoga with my sister and my mother, who in her seventies, contines to practice yoga daily.

If you are in the Fresno/Clovis area and wish to join in our commnunity class, please contact me and I will let you know our schedule.
