Yoga Background
YOGA TRAINING AND TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have a strong and dedicated personal practice in Anusara yoga. I initially practiced Ashtanga and Hatha flow yoga, but have shifted my primary focus to the Anusara style of yoga and use the teaching methods from this style/philosophy in my teaching. Through my training and through teaching hundreds of classes, I have developed a strong understanding of anatomy and biomechanics, the philosophy of the yogic principles, and therapeutic yoga instruction.
I began studying Ashtanga yoga with Lauren Peterson in early 2002 after moving from London to Malibu. I have studied with and subbed for Lauren regularly at Malibu Fitness since 2005. From June 2006 until July 2010 I taught weekly yoga classes for beginner and intermediate levels and a mixed-level Anusara class at Malibu Fitness.
In 2004 I completed a teachers training course with Erich Schiffmann at Sacred Movement Center for Yoga & Healing in Venice, CA, and have since then been teaching private clients in Malibu, West Hollywood and Westwood.
I began teaching restorative yoga at The Absolute Yoga Studio in Woodland Hills in early 2004, and taught 2 weekly Anusara yoga basics classes there from March 2005 to August 2006.
In 2005 I completed part one of the three-tiered teachers training with Yoga Angels, Yoga for Kids in West Hollywood with Subhadra Griffith.
In 2005 I was introduced to Anusara yoga and its principles. I completed 200 hours of Anusara teachers training at City Yoga, West Hollywood in 2005 under the instruction of Anthony Benenati and Tiffany Frazer, and regularly assisted Anthony in his classes at City Yoga. I also assisted during the 2006 Anusara Teachers Training at City Yoga, West Hollywood. From February 2006 until August 2007 I was substituting at City Yoga in West Hollywood.
In February 2006 I completed the Radiant Child Yoga teachers training with Shakta Kaur Kalsa and have taught various after–school yoga programs, including the Odyssey School in Malibu and at the Malibu High School and the Malibu Boys and Girls Club. Finally, I also arranged summer yoga and healthy habits summer camps for kids in middle school.
In April 2007 until my maternity leave in August 2008 I taught Anusara Yoga at True Yoga in Westlake Village. I also taught classes at Urth Yoga in Silverlake in the later part of 2007.
In 2007 and 2008 I completed Prenatal Teacher’s Trainings with Jessica Jennings at City Yoga, West Hollywood.
I have been teaching at the Santa Barbara Yoga Center since October 2010 and have since relocating to Santa Barbara been teaching classes and workshops at Malibu Fitness on the last weekend of the month.
