Professional Background
Nicole was immersed in yoga from her very first class. In 2000, she was literally dragged to the Ananda Ashram by friends to help deal with stress. Being a very spiritual person she was both scared and intrigued by what yoga had to offer her. She has studied religion and philosophy, and at one time attended Union Seminary in NYC. In 2003, after practicing with a tape at home and attending random classes in NYC, Nicole began taking Anusara Yoga classes where she began to transform physically, emotionally and spiritually. That personal transformation was so profound that it led her to complete a teacher training in 2006 with Vishali Varga. Since completing her training, she teaches classes in hopes of making people feel more comfortable with who they already are, letting yoga enhance their inherent beauty (inside and out). She continues her studies with such teachers as John Friend, Emma Magenta, Ross Rayburn, Sianna Sherman and Noah Maze. Nicole is an Anusara-Inspired teacher working towards certification who lives in West Orange, NJ with her beloved, Jared. She works in Design and Teaches Kids and Adults Yoga.
Yoga Background
Nicole completed an Immersion and teacher training with Vishali Varga, a therapeutics training with Sianna Sherman and Naime Jezzeney as well as other workshops in the community. She also has assisted Chaya Spencer for Immersion 1. Nicole is a certified Grounded Teacher for Grounded Kids Anusara Yoga for kids and teens.
Questions and Answers
Q: What other hobbies do you have aside from yoga practice?
A: I love to cook and knit.
Q: What is the title of a book that you have read recently that you could strongly recommend?
A: Just finished 'The Help' on my honeymoon -- it was so moving. It was a book that gave you a glimpse into the society of the south in the 1960's and how change was so dangerous but at the same time so necessary.
Q: What is one of your all-time favorite movies?
A: The Wizard of Oz. It gets better as I get older....and it's the ultimate theme generator when planning classes.
Q: What is one place that you would like to visit in the world? Why?
A: I've always wanted to go to India, even before I was a yogi. There's just something that pulls me there. Maybe I just feel an affinity with the culture. There seems to be something so rich and deep there.
Q: What's your favorite color?
A: green
Q: What award in high school should you have won?
A: Most-likely to succeed. I had no idea of what I wanted out of life in high school....but I think things turned out way better than I could have expected.
Q: What is one of the funniest incidents that occurred in one of your yoga classes?
A: The first class I ever taught was at a gym. There were about 20 students that showed up in a room we half shared with a spin class. The spin class ran over and so I had to very politely ask them to turn down their music so we could begin. The teacher turned it down and then just as the class was Om-ing, the spin teacher turned up the music so that 'Bringing Sexy Back' was blasting, drowning out our Oms. All I could do was laugh. Nothing really phases me now.
