Professional Background
I worked in communication consulting and client relationship management/sales and marketing for human resources consulting firms for 27 years before being able to retire and realize my dream to make yoga my vocation!
Yoga Background
Gail's students say her classes are nourishing, positive, playful and intelligently paced. Yoga has led Gail on amazing journey from her head to her heart. She was drawn to her teacher Jackie Prete for her precise alignment cues but soon learned of yoga's teachings in Jackie's classes and her Anusara Immersion. Gail took another Immersion with Jackie and Rudrani Farbman-Brown and their 200-hour teacher training. She taught yoga in New York and Hong Kong before following her heart and retiring to her husband David's hometown of Charleston after a 25-year career in human resources consulting. Her Self-inquiry practice has deepened through meditation, yoga philosophy studies, and spiritual programs, including The Sophia Institute and The Sacred Soul Center. It also showed her that yoga's profound impact on her recovery from alcoholism (she has been sober since 1995) is a gift to share with others. She started and leads RecoverYoga, which helps people in recovery heal through yoga, guided meditation and contemplation. She currently teaches at The Sophia Institute, The Yoga House of Charleston and The MUSC Wellness Center. She is a Yoga Alliance e-RYT200 and RYT500 teacher.
Questions and Answers
Q: What other hobbies do you have aside from yoga practice?
A: I also teach nia, which is a great balance to yoga--it provides high energy movement combining dance arts, martial arts and healing arts (including yoga). I also love to travel and read.
Q: What is the title of a book that you have read recently that you could strongly recommend?
A: Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts
Q: What is one of your all-time favorite movies?
A: Mary Poppins
Q: What is one place that you would like to visit in the world? Why?
A: Morocco--the history, beauty and totally different culture from what I have experienced. We have loved our travels to India, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, and all over Asia for the same reason.
Q: What's your favorite color?
A: Celadon green
Q: What award in high school should you have won?
A: Most likely to retire before age 50 to teach yoga. (Although even I wouldn't have believed it at the time!)
Q: What is one of the funniest incidents that occurred in one of your yoga classes?
A: Just this week, I did the inner spiral demonstration using the blocks (pez dispensers) and everyone had a lot of fun with it. When doing the partner inner spiral assist (with a strap) in adho mukha svanasana , one of my students commented, "well this is an interesting way to meet people!"
