We warmly welcome you to the Anusara yoga website. 2012 is a powerful year of refinement and transformation for Anusara yoga. The Anusara yoga school, in its 14th year, is now officially an entirely teacher-led school. John Friend, the school’s visionary founder, is grateful to have passed on stewardship of the school’s future movement to the highly well-trained and capable community of certified Anusara yoga teachers. Anusara yoga is an elegant and effective school of hatha yoga, that combines an attitude of seeking the true Self at the essence of all beings and situations, an exquisite alignment technique for the mind, heart and body, and an emphasis on the importance of community. This last aspect of community emphasis makes it particularly exciting that the Anusara yoga school is cared for and propelled forward by the dedication of its own community.

After a tumultuous time at the beginning of this year, John has decided to step aside in order to dive deep into his own yoga practice and apply its insights towards growth and positive transformation. Yoga is essentially a path of Self-realization. We are all students of this path and are co-travelers on its journey, regardless of whether or not we endeavor to teach yoga. When John returns to teaching, it will be done under his own auspices, so the fantastic teachers of Anusara yoga can truly be the new representatives of this elegant school of yoga.
